How Telehealth Works, Step by Step

Telehealth connects you with a licensed physician remotely, without an office visit. You send your information online, a physician reviews it and decides whether a treatment is appropriate for you, and if you're approved, a licensed pharmacy prepares and ships what was prescribed.

This guide explains each step, who does what, and what to ask on any platform, and shows how we handle it at VidaFlow Health. To first check that a platform is real, read our guide to verifying a telehealth platform.

What is telehealth?

Telehealth, also called telemedicine, is medical care delivered remotely. Instead of going to an office, you communicate with a licensed health professional online, through a form, messages, a phone call, or a video visit, depending on the platform. What doesn't change is that a licensed physician makes the medical decisions.

How does an online doctor visit work, step by step?

On most platforms, the process has five steps: you create an account, fill out a form with your health information, a licensed physician reviews it, you get their decision, and if you're approved, a pharmacy prepares and ships what was prescribed. Ask how you'll be contacted at each step.

At VidaFlow Health, you send your request through an online form and receive the response in your portal account.

Who reviews my request and decides?

An independent licensed physician reviews your information and decides whether a treatment is appropriate for you. The platform shouldn't make that decision or promise an outcome before the physician reviews your case. Look for a platform that says clearly who decides and where that physician is licensed.

At VidaFlow Health, independent licensed physicians decide every prescription. The physician who approves Puerto Rico requests is licensed in Puerto Rico. To learn what happens when the answer is no, read what happens if the doctor doesn't approve you.

What information will they ask for?

Expect to be asked for your contact details, your health history, the medications you take, and other questions about your health. Answer truthfully and completely: the physician decides based on the information you give. If anything on the form is unclear, ask before you submit it.

How does an online prescription work if I'm approved?

If the physician approves you, they write the prescription and send it to a licensed pharmacy, which prepares the medication and ships it to your address. Ask which pharmacy prepares it, whether it's licensed, how long shipping takes, and what happens if the package arrives damaged or never arrives.

At VidaFlow Health, prescribed medications are compounded: an independent licensed pharmacy prepares them, and they aren't approved by the FDA.

What happens after I receive my treatment?

Ask who you contact with questions about the service, who you contact with medical questions, and how later orders are handled. A serious platform gives you a real contact, not just a form. Telehealth doesn't replace your regular care: keep your usual doctor informed about your treatments.

At VidaFlow Health, our team calls you in weeks 1, 4 and 8 to see how your experience with the service is going. Those calls don't replace medical care. You can also write to support@vidaflowhealth.com.

When am I charged?

It depends on the platform, and it should be written down before you hand over your card. Ask whether submitting your request triggers a charge or only an authorization, what event turns the authorization into a charge, and which fees sit outside the published price. Keep a copy of the policy that applies.

At VidaFlow Health, submitting the form places a payment authorization, not a charge. You're charged only if a physician approves you; if not, you pay $0. The medical evaluation has a $35 fee. To see every question about payment, read what to ask before you pay.

If something doesn't add up, ask

A serious platform can explain each step in writing without getting defensive. If you get evasive replies or pressure to pay today, that's your answer.

You can ask us these same questions. Write to support@vidaflowhealth.com.
